SAN FRANCISCO AIRPORT, CA,

Unlike New York City, San Francisco had not been quick off the mark to start building its sea defenses, with a consequence that the runways out at the airport were subject to closure from flooding. They were working on it, but if ever you wanted a vital sign that the seas were rising, on a clear day you could see the salt bleached perimeters from the air as your plane came into land.
Of course, most cities in most countries never had, or no longer possessed the financial muscle to re-draw their coastlines in concrete. There was just too much other stuff going on. And in the end who was going to argue with the ocean and come out on top?
