THE WAR ON THE PEOPLE. We have come to the inescapable conclusion—as happened with the rise of Nazism in the Germany of the 1930’s—that people dying is part of the plan. How else do we explain the concerted and unceasing push by the bullies at the heart of government for ever more draconian measures? The GOP, enabled by timid or complicit mainstream Democrats, are laying waste to environmental protections, rolling back clean air and water protections, and turning the EPA into an instrument of making more deaths inevitable. Ditto, the wholly predictable rise in deaths as a result of prohibitively expensive healthcare, foisted on we the people by both parties.
It is not simply that the GOP et al. don’t care if people live or die, it is rather that the enabling of otherwise preventable deaths have become a prime mechanism for scaring voters into falling in line. Hannah Arendt described such rule by terror in her book “The Origins of Totalitarianism”
noting that: “only where great masses are superfluous or can be spared without disastrous results of depopulation is totalitarian rule, as distinguished from a totalitarian movement, at all possible.”

We are living in one such moment now. They know what the science says and what the statistics show, and they are ramping up the rolling back regulations like there is no tomorrow in the full knowledge that people will die as a result. We are seeing totalitarian rule in the United States in the twenty twenties, where the GOP have effectively declared war on ‘we-the-poor’ and have basically signed up for the twenty first century equivalent of the tyranny of hanging corpses on the barbed wire as an example or all to see.

It is an extreme version of divide and rule by imposing fear, but it is very real during this Covd-19 pandemic and all the concurrent environmental degradations being pushed forward by government whilst most everyone’s minds are largely, and understandably, elsewhere.

We must however wake up, and use these moments of connected self-isolation to homeschool ourselves and each other in the three R’s. Rediscovering our common humanity. Relearning our critical thinking skills. And, Resisting the dictatorship of predator capitalism.
