Economic freedom is actually NOT in the constitution ... and the decades long PR campaign by elite market fundamentalists to equate it with political freedom has always been a concoction designed to obscure their real-world priorities of putting profit before people.
So, the freedom of corporations such as Raytheon, Lockheed Martin and Boeing to make and sell weapons of war, is prioritized over the freedom of people not be killed by such weapons. Likewise, the freedom of Koch Industries, Exxon and Shell to dump greenhouse pollutants into the atmosphere is prized above the freedom of ordinary people not to breath in toxins or be terrorized by fossil-fuel-turbo-charged climate disasters.
This fabricated conservative ‘consensus’ con is protected by corporate mainstream media outlets across the board, acting as a collective firewall, to defend this capitalist model from serious question. It is presented as somehow reasonable or moderate, but is actually an extreme economic position. Rather than representing ordinary Americans, as it pretends to do, it does the opposite, disorienting us and denying us regular access the very basics of life, to keep us off overworked, underpaid, off balance and under the invisible thumb.
Of course, these ‘news’ outlets are handsomely rewarded for their collaboration, as their corporate brethren shower them with advertising revenues and the billions to be made from dark money political adverts, all of which combine to reinforce and reflect said elite priorities.
